The City of Enid is seeking a part-time Landfill Maintenance Worker to help maintain and improve the landfill area for residents and visitors. You'll perform grounds keeping tasks including mowing, trimming, litter pickup, and operating equipment such as mowers, chainsaws, and weed eaters while following safety rules and working with the Solid Waste Services team.

This role requires physical stamina and flexibility to cover varied shifts, including weekends.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required.
• Knowledge of machines and tools used in grounds maintenance.
• Ability to operate mowing equipment, chainsaws, weed eaters, and other hand tools.

Responsabilités

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

POSITION PURPOSE

To enhance the quality of life of Enid residents and guests through the maintenance and improvement of landfill area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

• Provide manual care for offices, storm water ditches, detention ponds, and other designated areas by mowing, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch.
• Drive city vehicles to transport tools to various locations.
• Operate various tools to include shovel, chainsaw, rake, weed eater, mule and riding mower.
• Haul and spread topsoil, and spread straw over seeded soil to hold soil in place.
• Stake, prune, or remove trees using accepted methods.
• Walks on uneven ground to gather and remove litter with tools or manually and put in trash bags to be disposed of.
• Keep the Solid Waste Services Supervisor and Foreman informed daily of activities.
• Provide assistance and support to other departments as needed.
• Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

No prior experience or training.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES

None.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

Mechanical

Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Accurate and attentive to detail.
• Ability to assist and support others.
• Ability to operate riding mower, chain saws, and weed eaters.
• Able to operate telephone, copier, and other basic business machines.

FINGER DEXTERITY

Manual dexterity sufficient to work with the fingers.

VISUAL ABILITIES

Normal vision, with or without corrective lenses.

PHYSICAL STRENGTH

PDC Level: Medium. Employee lifts/carries 50 lbs occasionally (less than 33% of the time or 1-100 times per day). Ability to ascend/descend 12" platform.

LANGUAGE/COMPREHENSION

Ability to communicate orally and distinguish minimal written language such as addresses and street signs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

MATHEMATICS ABILITY

Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding and subtracting two digit numbers, multiplying and dividing with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of money and weight or distance measurement.

WORK SCHEDULE/HOURS

Part-Time: Monday through Sunday, varied shift, not to exceed 28 hours per week. Some weekends and holidays required. Other: Variable lunch period and breaks in coordination with other office personnel.

WORK CONDITIONS

Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, wind, snow, etc.) and indoor shop environment with adequate ventilation.

NOISE LEVEL

Loud. Hearing protection as required.

OTHER WORK CONDITIONS

• Air contamination (when mowing).
• Vibration.
• Improperly illuminated or awkward and confining workspace.

ADVANCEMENT CRITERIA

INTERMEDIATE

• 3-5 years related experience.
• Ability to fill in for Landfill Attendant for short term.
• Good application of safety as applies to job.
• Local tree trimming license.
• Herbicide/pesticide applicator license.
• High school/GED.

ADVANCED

• 6+ years related experience.
• Ability to fill in for Landfill Attendant for extended period of time.
• Advanced safety knowledge.
• Advanced tree care knowledge.
• Valid CPR certification.
• Ability to fill in for Heavy Equipment Operator for a short term.
