Job summary

The GEL Group, Inc. in Charleston, SC is seeking a Part Time Laboratory Support Technician to join our environmental testing operations.

This entry‑level role focuses on receiving samples, verifying containers, temperatures, and preservatives, and following documented procedures to support water, soil, and hazardous waste analyses. An affiliate lab within GEL Laboratories, LLC emphasizes accuracy, teamwork, and adherence to safety as essential values.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Six months shipping and receiving or related experience.
  • Associate’s degree (science or lab courses) preferred.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions to properly receive samples from clients.
  • Exhibits organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • May work a Monday–Friday or Tuesday–Saturday schedule.
  • Part Time hours not to exceed 30 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Receive samples from clients and inspect for proper containers, temperatures, preservatives, etc.
  • Complete sample receipt forms per method requirements and document deviations.
  • Communicate issues to Project Managers as they arise.
  • Label sample containers and place in appropriate storage locations.
  • Fill sample bottle requests from clients.
  • Assist in subcontracting of samples to other laboratories.
  • Support archiving and staging of samples.
  • Demonstrate and support GEL core values.
  • Conduct tasks that support other operations in the laboratory.

GEL Laboratories,LLC, an affiliate of The GEL Group, Inc., is looking for a Support Technician to join our team of professionals in our Charleston, SC office toreceivesamples from clients and inspect for proper container, temperature, preservatives, etc.This position focuses onfollowingprocedures describing how to properly receive samples from clients in support ofenvironmental compliance programs for water, soil, and hazardous waste samples.This entry-level rolenecessitatesstrong attention to detail, proven ability to work both quickly and efficiently in a warehouse atmosphere, and the ability to work within a team structure.The successful candidate will be an effective communicator,haveflexibilityto come in early, stay late, and work weekends based on shipments of samples needing to be processed, andpossessa general understanding of laboratory protocols and procedures.

What You'll Do
  • Receivesamples from clients andinspectingforproper containers, temperatures, preservatives, etc.
  • Completesample receipt formsbased on method requirements and documentingany deviations.

Working Environment & Physical Demands

This position requires working in a busy production laboratory, safely handling and storing RAD Safety-controlled material and samples. Safety is a priority, and negligence is not tolerated. Safety equipment is provided, and use is mandatory.

  • Precise hand/eye coordination and finger/hand manipulation.
  • Potential exposure to chemicals and to hazardous and/or radioactive materials.

  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
