As a part-time laboratory technician, you will provide laboratory support for natural science courses in the School of Arts, Sciences & Education. These include Anatomy & Physiology, Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, and Physical Science. Support includes technical set-up, cleaning, and helping full-time lab staff. Key Responsibilities include setting up and tearing down instructional labs for science courses offered in the Indianapolis service area, keeping instructional labs and prep rooms clean and organized, checking equipment for proper operation, restocking lab items and materials as needed, properly cleaning up and storing lab supplies, washing glassware and other re-usable supplies and putting them away, complying with all safety regulations and lab procedures, and staying current on safety data sheet information for all chemicals in use. Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent, college courses in biology, biotechnology, chemistry, and/or physics, basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook, and being dependable, punctual, organized, and dedicated to supporting faculty and students. Preferred qualifications include an AS degree or higher, one year experience with instructional and research lab support, and one year experience with chemical and biological specimen use and disposal in a laboratory environment. Additional skills include the ability to promote a respectful environment supporting diverse backgrounds, strong problem-solving skills, ability to collaborate effectively, and promoting an environment where every individual feels respected and valued. The position reports to the Sciences Laboratory Manager and is classified as N-2 with a salary of $17/hour.
