General Function:
Facilities Maintenance is a Monday thru Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. department. The Journeyman Plumber performs skilled technical work in the installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of domestic water systems, heating water systems, sanitary sewer systems, storm sewers, gas pipe (both threaded and fusion welded), steam and condensate pipes, and fire protection systems in all University structures and grounds following recognized procedures and techniques of the plumbing trade. The Journeyman Plumber maintains the heating, water, gas and plumbing systems using hand and power tools such as sewer auger or vacuum plunger, acetylene torch, soldering and welding equipment, sewer camera, pipe locator, and related plumbing tools. The Journeyman Plumber also practices preventive maintenance of plumbing tools and equipment, and complies with federal regulations governing environmental protection, hazardous waste disposal and the use of chemical substances and materials common to the plumbing trade. The Journeyman Plumber monitors and reports maintenance issues needing attention to the appropriate authority.
Description of Primary Duties:
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
Education: A high school diploma or the equivalent is required. Completion of a plumbing vocational/technical school or a recognized apprenticeship program in the plumbing trade is preferred.
Experience: At least six years successful experience in the plumbing trade is required. Documented journeyman status is required. A working knowledge of building and plumbing codes is required.
Skills: Requires general mechanical ability including skills in the use of electrical test equipment, small hand and power tools, and the ability to interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.
Effort: Must be able to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally; prolonged standing and frequent bending, stooping, and reaching are required.
License: A Journeyman plumber’s license is preferred.
Other: A valid Missouri driver's license is required. A valid backflow preventer license is preferred.
