Job summary

City of Fort Wayne is offering a Part-Time Intern position in Parks and Recreation to assist with project administration, drafting, and data collection. You will gain hands-on experience with AutoCAD, GIS, surveying, and cost estimation while supporting park construction and improvement projects.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in Construction, Architecture, Civil Engineering Technology, Landscape Architecture, or related program.
  • Completion of sophomore-level requirements within your major.
  • Basic drafting knowledge and experience using AutoCAD.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations using algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
  • Strong organization, communication, recordkeeping, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed drawings, sketches, and site plans for park construction projects.
  • Collect field and GIS data and maintain accurate survey notes.
  • Assist with ADA inspections of park buildings, grounds, and facilities.
  • Prepare rough project cost estimates and organize maps, drawings, and specifications.
  • Support drafting and engineering technicians with surveying, measurements, and utility locations.

Part-Time Intern – Project Administration Under 20 hours per week | Parks and Recreation |

Are you an Architecture, Engineering, Construction, or Landscape Architecture student who enjoys turning field data into real plans? We're looking for someone who is technical, detail-focused, and ready to gain hands-on project experience.

What You'll Do

Support Parks and Recreation construction and improvement projects while gaining practical experience with AutoCAD, GIS, surveying, cost estimating, site plans, and utility locations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed drawings, sketches, and site plans for park construction projects
  • Collect field and GIS data and maintain accurate survey notes
  • Assist with ADA inspections of park buildings, grounds, and facilities
  • Prepare rough project cost estimates and organize maps, drawings, and specifications

What You Bring | Education & Experience
  • Currently enrolled full- or part-time in Construction, Architecture, Civil Engineering Technology, Landscape Architecture, or a related program
  • Completion of sophomore-level requirements within your major
  • Basic drafting knowledge and experience using AutoCAD
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations using algebra, trigonometry, and geometry

Preferred Technical Skills & Knowledge
  • ArcGIS software
  • AutoCAD drafting software
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Surveying and field-measuring equipment, including transits and builder's levels
  • Ability to interpret field notes, establish lines and grades, and prepare project drawings
Preferred Certification

Valid Indiana driver's license if operating a City vehicle.
