Job summary

Kansas City Public Schools is seeking an Instructional Paraprofessional to support teachers and foster development in elementary students. The role emphasizes teamwork, small-group instruction, and helping families access resources.

The position is part-time (24 hours/week), with work hours 7:30am–11:30am and a 205-day in-person schedule. Health and dental insurance are provided by KCPS.

Qualifications

• 60 college hours with GPA ≥ 2.5.
• Missouri state substitute teacher certification.
• Knowledge of the Project Construct Curriculum.
• Skills in working with children and their parents.
• Desire to work with elementary grade children.

Responsibilities

• Work with teachers in team teaching, team planning, and daily routines.
• Provide small group and circle time instruction to assigned children.
• Assist in implementing the Project Construct Curriculum with the children and their parents.
• Assist in preparing crafts, art, sensory materials and snacks for children.
• Work cooperatively with parents and other classroom volunteers.
• Accompany teachers on home visits and assist in establishing support with families.
• Participate on program planning committees, and parent involvement activities.
• Attend orientation and in-service training sessions and serve as group leader when needed.
• Plan individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills.
• Instruct children in practice of personal cleanliness and self-care.
• Alternate periods of strenuous activity with periods of rest and light activity.
• Help children develop habits of caring for own clothing and putting away toys and books.
• Perform Administrative Case Management duties for health resources under Medicaid.

PURPOSE OF JOB

To work with classroom teachers to effectively plan, coordinate and carry out child development activities. Work with teachers to instruct children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for elementary school by performing the following duties.

What You'll Be Doing: (Responsibilities)

• Provide small group and circle time instruction to assigned children.
• Understand, support and be able to assist in implementing and communicating the Project Construct Curriculum with the children and their parents.
• Assist in preparing crafts, art, sensory materials and snacks for children.
• Work cooperatively with parents and other classroom volunteers.
• Accompany teachers on home visits and assist in establishing support with families.
• Participate on program planning committees, and parent involvement activities.
• Attend orientation and in-service training sessions and serve as group leader when needed.
• Plan individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and using play equipment.
• Instruct children in practice of personal cleanliness and self-care.
• Alternate periods of strenuous activity with periods of rest and light activity to avoid over-stimulation and fatigue of students.
• Help children develop habits of caring for own clothing and picking up and putting away toys and books
• Perform any Administrative Case Management duties, which serve to inform students and their families how to effectively access, use and maintain participation in all health resources under the Federal Medicaid program.
