Job summary

Kansas City Public Schools in Kansas City, MO, seeks a 2026-2027 Paraprofessional for Special Education to assist teachers in planning and delivering instructional activities. This role supports social, physical, and intellectual growth to help students progress toward graduation.

The paraprofessional works with teachers in team settings, supports curriculum delivery, and communicates with parents. This position is full-time, with hours per day and the district’s benefits package.

Qualifications

• Sixth college credit hours or higher required.

Position Summary:

To work with classroom teachers to effectively plan, coordinate and carry out instructional activities. Work with teacher to instruct children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for persistence towards graduation by performing the following duties.

What You'll Be Doing: (Responsibilities)

• Work with teachers in team teaching, team planning, and daily routines.


• Provide group instruction to assigned children.


• Understand, support and be able to assist in implementing and communicating the curriculum with the children and their parents.


• Assist in preparing and setting up daily materials.


• Work cooperatively with parents and other classroom/ school volunteers and staff.


• Participate on program planning committees and parent involvement activities.


• Attend orientation and Professional Development sessions and serve as group leader when needed.


• Implement individual and group activities to stimulate growth as outlined in the IEP.


• Instruct children in practice of daily living skills as appropriate.


• Remain with student for support during all times outside of the Special Education classroom as assigned.


• Provide short-term classroom coverage when teacher must leave the room but remains within the building.


• Must provide personal care for student (i.e. diaper changing, toileting, feeding,) as appropriate


• Lift and transfer students as needed.


• Implement the use of technology to enhance student achievement.


• Use of ASL skills required for DHH assignments.

To Be Successful at This Job, You'll Need To (Minimum Qualifications)

• Individuals who wish to become an instructional paraprofessional must meet one of the following qualifications:


• Sixty (60) college credit hours.


• Associate's degree or higher.


• Missouri ParaPro Assessment passing score (before September 23, 2013).


• Missouri Paraprofessional Assessment passing score (September 23, 2013 and after).


• Completed Missouri's 20-hour online substitute training program.

In Order to #LevelUp in This Role, You'll Need: (Preferred Qualifications)

• Three (3) years successful experience working with children and their parents.


• Course work in childhood education.


• Missouri state substitute teacher certification.
