We are currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Independent Contractor Controller / Accounting Manager to oversee and streamline the financial operations across a multi-entity corporate structure. This includes two operating companies, a management company, a property company, and the parent S-Corporation.

This is a part-time role averaging 10–15 hours per month, reporting directly to the CEO and COO. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining financial clarity, managing intercompany workflows, and supporting executive decision-making, allowing leadership to focus on growth and operations.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain accurate financial records across all entities in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable for multiple businesses under a consolidated umbrella.
• Perform monthly reconciliations of all bank and credit card accounts, including intercompany transactions (e.g., rent, management fees, shared expenses).
• Match transactions in QuickBooks Online and coordinate with entity managers to collect receipts and documentation.
• Assist general managers in compiling AP reports and organizing checks for approval and mailing every 3–4 days.
• Coordinate payroll preparation by gathering data from general managers and ensuring accuracy through the management company.
• Prepare and post journal entries, maintain the general ledger, and ensure timely internal reporting.
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting, including variance analysis and executive reporting.
• Establish and maintain internal accounting controls and standard operating procedures.
• Collaborate with external CPA firm to ensure readiness for tax filings and audits (note: tax return preparation is not part of this role).
• Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reports at the request of the CEO and COO.

Qualifications:

• Strong hands-on experience in accounting for multi-entity organizations and intercompany reconciliations.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel (including reconciliation formulas and pivot tables).
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines with minimal oversight.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is helpful but not required. Practical experience is valued more than credentials.
• CPA certification is a plus, but not required.
• Hours: 10–15 hours per month (flexible schedule)
• Compensation: $65+/hour, depending on experience
• Location: Mostly Remote, with occasional virtual/in-person meetings
