Job summary

Saildrone is seeking a Part-Time Hydrographic Surveyor to join our Ocean Mapping Team. You will own survey deliverables, perform QA/QC, and drive precision in real-time bathymetric data collection on Saildrone USVs.

This role requires weekend watch standing and shifts scheduled Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun UTC. Reporting to the Bathymetry Operations Manager, you will work in a fast-paced environment with strict adherence to SOPs and international hydrographic regulations, ensuring data integrity and

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in Hydrography, Oceanography, Geomatics, Remote Sensing or related discipline.
3+ years experience in the Survey or Geoscience industry as a survey professional.
Familiarity with multibeam systems such as Kongsberg, Norbit, Teledyne and acquisition software such as SIS, Norbit DCT or Qinsy.
Ability to work irregular hours, rotating weekends, and shift work.
Candidate is detail-oriented with a disciplined approach to communications, processes, and projects.
Category A/B Hydrographer Certification.
NSPS-THSOA Certified Hydrographer.
Three+ years processing bathymetric/hydrographic data with Qimera or CARI.

Responsibilities

Stand scheduled remote watches to oversee live hydrographic data acquisition across international USV missions.
Monitor sonar performance and sensor health to maintain high-quality data.
Coordinate with Mission Pilots and Lead Surveyor to adjust survey line plans and coverage.
Perform routine data processing, cleaning and QA checks during shifts.
Diagnose sensor or data logging errors and communicate status to support teams.
Adhere to SOPs, safety standards and hydrographic regulations.
Provide clear shift handoffs for 24/7 survey operations.
