Job summary

Cincinnati Opera in Cincinnati, OH is seeking a Part-Time Director of Human Resources to lead and strengthen the HR function. This role combines strategic partnership with hands-on execution, managing employee relations, performance management, recruiting, payroll oversight, compliance, onboarding, and HR operations in a department-of-one setting.

We support approximately 25 year-round staff and a significantly expanded seasonal workforce.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of progressively responsible HR experience with ownership of multiple HR functions.
• Strong working knowledge of federal and Ohio employment laws, HR best practices, and employee relations principles.
• Experience serving as a trusted advisor to leaders, with strong communication, coaching and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary HR resource for employees and leaders, guiding employee relations and policy interpretation.
• Coach leaders on performance management, development, compensation, and workforce planning.
• Manage employee relations concerns and investigations with support from legal counsel as needed.
• Lead recruiting, including postings, screening, interviews, offers, and onboarding.
• Coordinate benefits, PTO, leave programs, workers' comp, unemployment claims, verifications, and HR processes.
• Oversee payroll preparation, data accuracy, deductions, and changes to ensure compliance.
• Maintain HRIS data, employee records, and organizational documentation.
• Lead onboarding and offboarding in collaboration with leaders and IT/payroll vendors.
• Serve as liaison with payroll, benefits, and HR service providers; support transitions to new providers.
• Update HR policies and employee handbook materials; ensure compliance.
• Develop and improve HR processes for consistency, accountability, and operational effectiveness.
• Deliver training on HR topics to leaders and employees.
