Job summary

West Virginia University Health System is seeking a dedicated hospital cleaner to maintenance patient rooms, exam areas, and public spaces, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment. You will follow established cleaning procedures, restock supplies, report equipment or safety issues, and assist with room turnover.

This 24-hour-per-week, non-exempt position is on-site at the hospital and requires the ability to work independently and with a team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to perform cleaning tasks.
• Ability to follow established cleaning procedures.
• Willingness to restock supplies and report issues.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and ensures that all assigned areas are properly cleaned and in good repair; report problems to the supervisor.
• Cleans all assigned areas, including patient rooms, exam rooms, public areas, toilets, procedure rooms, OR rooms, offices and equipment, following established procedures.
• Removes trash from all assigned areas.
• Replenishes paper towels, toilet paper, and soap in all locations of assigned areas to assure adequate supply.
• Makes beds, following established cleaning procedures in all patient discharge rooms and on-call rooms as assigned.
• Maintains assigned equipment in clean, working condition, reporting problems and suggestions to the supervisor.
• Moves equipment, furniture, boxes, wash walls, spot carpets, etc. as assigned.
• Follows all safety and sanitation regulations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

• 1. High school diploma or equivalent

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 1. Inspects and ensures that all assigned areas are properly cleaned and in good repair; report problems to the supervisor.
• 2. Cleans all assigned areas, including patient rooms, exam rooms, public areas, toilets, procedure rooms, OR rooms, offices and equipment, following established procedures.
• 3. Removes trash from all assigned areas.

For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements:

• 1. Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• 1. Must have physical ability to perform cleaning tasks such as mopping, reaching and bending and operating floor equipment such as vacuum cleaners, autoscrubbers, buffers, etc.
• 2. Must meet Department of Labor's Heavy Duty Standard.
• 3. Capable of wearing appropriate PPE for an extended period of time

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

1. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids and different types of cleaning chemicals.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• 1. Ability to be scheduled for work based on operational needs of the hospital.
• 2. Possesses the ability to deal tactfully and harmoniously with guests.
• 3. Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of assigned areas, necessary supplies and equipment
• 4. Must be able to read and follow written work assignments.
