Job summary

Raffles Boston invites a Host to deliver exceptional service in a luxury environment. The role includes managing floor plans, coordinating with the kitchen and MOD, and ensuring accurate menus and reservations, while upholding impeccable etiquette.

The ideal candidate has a High School diploma, excellent English skills, and some luxury food and beverage experience; wine and spirits knowledge is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent reading, writing and oral proficiency in English.
• Some food and beverage experience at a luxury hotel or restaurant an asset.
• Proficient knowledge of wines, spirits, and mixed drinks. (bench test preferred)

Job Description

The Host is responsible for providing the highest quality of service to guests in an attentive, courteous, and efficient manner. He/she is also responsible for organizing the floor, the floor plan, distribution of sections, menus etc. Host/Hostess communicates with kitchen team at all times as well as the MOD.

Additionally, the Host maintains menus, host stand and reservation system/phone. Proper etiquette is a must at all times.

• Employees must at all times be attentive, friendly, helpful and courteous to all guests, managers and fellow employees.
• Have a thorough knowledge of menus and current specials in applicable outlets.
• Service guests with all food and beverage requirements in an attentive, courteous, and efficient manner.
• Be familiar with the operation of the Open Table
• Ensure menus are clean.
• Ensure that there are updated menus for each shift.
• Perform opening and closing procedures and side-work duties.
• Ensure the host stands is kept stocked, tidy and clean.
• Service guests to the standard steps of service.
• Escort guests to their tables and pull chairs for them.
• Bring the guest’s drinks using a tray when escorting them to the restaurant from the bar.
• Be familiar with fire extinguishers, locations and know how to use them.
• Ensure overall guest satisfaction.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements

• Flexible and long hours sometimes required.
• Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally
• Ability to stand for the entire shift.

• Comply with Raffles Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
• Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas and assist in implementing solutions.
• Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
• Must be able to understand and apply complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
• Must be able to cross-train in other hotel related areas if needed.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
• Must be able to show initiative, including anticipating guest or operational needs.
• Perform other duties if requested by management.
• Maintain a friendly and warm demeanor at all times.
