Job summary

HI USA New Orleans Hostel is seeking a part-time Maintenance Associate to keep the hostel in great condition through proactive upkeep and timely repairs, supporting a welcoming guest experience.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of hands-on maintenance experience in hospitality, can read simple instructions, and is willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Pay ranges from $17.00 to $17.50 per hour, with perks including free hostel stays and staff discounts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 3 years hands-on maintenance experience in hospitality.
• Proficient with tools and physical maintenance tasks.
• Able to read simple instructions and write basic reports.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Able to interact calmly with guests and staff.

Responsibilities

• Identify and complete repair tasks, ensuring all work orders are recorded and resolved in a timely and professional manner
• Maintain an active project list and work plan using HI USA's facilities management software
• Perform regular upkeep and repairs, including basic plumbing, painting, grounds maintenance, and building repairs
• Monitor building systems including HVAC, fire alarms, sprinklers, electrical, and plumbing
• Supervise and document vendor work on site (e.g., pest control, HVAC, plumbing)
• Manage daily waste, recycling, and compost removal and ensure cleanliness of related areas
• Perform janitorial tasks and assist housekeeping as needed
• Climb ladders, lift parts and equipment, and access crawl spaces as needed
• Support other departments and take on special projects as assigned
