Job summary

Springfield Local Schools is seeking a part-time High School Boys Tennis Assistant Coach for the 2026-2027 school year. In this role you will assist the Head Coach, help develop a positive team culture, and support student-athlete growth in both athletic and academic aspects.

You will work under the Athletic Director, follow OHSAA rules, and coordinate practices, conditioning, and injury prevention while fostering responsible citizenship and school spirit.

Qualifications

• State of Ohio teaching license or certificate (preferred, not required).
• Current BCI/FBI, PAP on file (keep PAP valid).
• Evidence of good moral character per Ohio Admin Code 3301-20-01.
• Ability to maintain confidential information.
• Demonstrated coaching and administrative capabilities.
• Coaching experience preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of the sport with emphasis on fundamentals.
• Advanced knowledge of training and conditioning techniques.
• Ability to identify player strengths/deficiencies and provide quality feedback toward improvement.
• Organizational and problem solving skills.
• Ability to communicate ideas clearly (oral and written).
• Ability to relate with and inspire young athletes.
• Ability to work with all members of the school and athletic community.
• Willingness to invest time to develop a successful program.
• Ability to perform minor equipment repairs.
• Experience with a culturally diverse student population preferred.
• Alternatives to qualifications may be considered by the Board.

Responsibilities

• Encourage students to participate in the program.
• Equally prioritize athletic and character development of all team members.
• Assist Head Coach with equipment and fees.
• Instruct and assist players in care and prevention of injuries.
• Adhere to OHSAA rules and Springfield Board policies.
• Instruct proper use of body-building equipment and training.
• Schedule, plan and conduct all practice sessions and scrimmages with Head Coach.
• Be accountable for player behavior during practices, meetings, locker room activities, and trips.
• Enforce training rules with the Athletic Trainer.
• Collaborate and communicate with feeder programs with the Head Coach.
• Assist with monitoring weekly eligibility with the Athletic Office.
• Participate in the Awards Program by distributing awards.
• Encourage athletes to participate in other sports or conditioning programs in off-season.
• Promote all school activities and sports within the athletic program.
• Seek opportunities to remain current and develop as a coach.
• Communicate with staff to ensure a team approach to problem solving.
• Help maintain safety and security in the building.
• Access and respond to district email regularly.
