Job summary

Pleasant View Farms is seeking a part-time cattle-hand to assist with day-to-day herd duties near Somers, CT. The role involves feeding, bedding, calving support, and routine herd checks in all weather conditions.

You will help manage pastures, operate basic cattle equipment, and assist with calving-time activities. The ideal candidate is dependable, observant, and eager to learn, with good communication and the ability to work independently when needed.

Responsibilities

• Daily cattle feeding, bedding, and herd checks.
• Assist with calving and newborn calf care.
• Monitor breeding cows and heifers for signs of labor or distress.
• Report health concerns or management issues promptly.
• Move, sort and handle cattle safely.
• Record keeping and basic equipment operation.
• Help with pasture maintenance and water checks.
• Occasional customer deliveries as needed.

As our cattle operation continues to grow, Pleasant View Farms is looking for a reliable, motivated person to help support the day-to-day herd work alongside the rest of our team.

Duties may include:

• Daily cattle feeding, bedding, and herd checks
• Assisting with calving and newborn calf care
• Watching bred cows and heifers closely for signs of labor or distress
• Recognizing and promptly reporting health concerns, injuries, or management issues
• Moving, sorting, and working cattle safely
• Tagging, vaccinations, treatments, and other herd-health work under supervision
• Record keeping
• Helping operate the TMR mixer as a backup feeder
• Assisting with pasture management, including daily cattle and water checks, monitoring fence condition and voltage, and reporting needed repairs
• Basic operation of cattle equipment, including tractors, front-end loader, feed mixer, livestock scales, and cattle trailer
• Routine cleaning and upkeep of calving facilities, cattle areas, and equipment
• Assisting with seedstock sale preparation,freezer-beef inventory, and occasional customer deliveries
• Other general cattle-operation duties as needed

Cattle experience is preferred, but we are looking most for someone dependable, observant, willing to learn, and comfortable with physical outdoor work in all types of weather. The right person will communicate well, pay close attention to livestock, work respectfully with the team, and be confident working independently when needed.

This is a part-time position with approximately 20 hours per week, with hours adjusted around the needs of the herd. Potential to grow into full time

Some early mornings, weekends, and calving-time availability will be needed.
