Job summary

The Lake Superior YMCA in Duluth, MN is seeking a part-time gymnastics leader to provide safe, engaging instruction for preschool to progressive/team programs. You will foster strong relationships with students and families while modeling YMCA values and ensuring high-quality programming.

Responsibilities include lesson planning, record-keeping, safety compliance, and potential travel for meets. A proactive, inclusive candidate with CPR/First Aid certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• At least 16 years of age.
• Certified in CPR, AED, Basic First Aid, or able to obtain within 60 days of start.
• Must demonstrate gymnastics instructor skills per YMCA standards.

• Preferred knowledge of USAG XCEL or JR Olympic program.
• Must successfully pass a background check.

Responsibilities

• Instruct energizing, fun, and safe gymnastics lessons with prepared lesson plans for Preschool, Recreational, Boys, or Progressive/Team.
• Build authentic relationships with students and parents; encourage volunteer involvement and inform about schedules.
• Maintain attendance and progress records as required.
• Follow YMCA policies and safety procedures; complete incident reports as necessary.
• Model the YMCA Core Values: Honesty, Caring, Respect, Responsibility.
• Organize and put away class equipment; report damaged equipment and low supplies.
• Attend out-of-town meets for Progressive/Team coaches as scheduled; supervise open gyms and birthday parties.
• Foster an inclusive environment and support equity/diversity initiatives.
• Support community needs through mission advancement and volunteer recruitment.
• Collaborate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds; communicate clearly and take initiative to help others.
• Contribute to budgeting, goal setting, and delivering a high-value member experience.
• Pursue self-development and adapt to changes to improve performance.
