Job summary

Tulsa County's Parks Department is seeking a part-time grounds maintenance worker to help care for golf course areas. Duties include turf upkeep, equipment operation, irrigation, and minor landscaping tasks.

Requires ability to perform manual labor, follow instructions, and handle tools safely. CDL/driving tests may be required; safety policies apply. This role is safety-sensitive and part-time with hourly compensation.

  • Knowledge of the common practices, methods, tools, and materials of varied, semiskilled maintenance work; and of hazards and safety precautions.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods; to use hand and mechanical tools and equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand chemical labels and warnings; operate trucks and small tractors; and read instructions.
  • No supervisory responsibilities.

  • Operate tractor and equipment to till, cultivate, and grade turf areas, apply lime, fertilizer, insecticide, and fungicide, and mow rough and fairways.
  • Cut turf on greens and tees with hand and power mowers.
  • Connect hoses and sprinkler systems to irrigate turf.
  • Dig and rake ground to prepare greens, grades, and repair areas.
  • May plant, trim, and spray trees and shrubs.

Under general supervision, is responsible for the performance of manual, semiskilled work in the care, maintenance and repair of areas by performing the following duties.

Safety‑Sensitive Position: Yes (as defined under Oklahoma Statute Title 63 § 427.8)

All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety‑sensitive or require a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist in maintaining grounds and turf of golf course in an acceptable playing condition.
  • May operate tractor, and specialized equipment using specific attachments, to till, cultivate, and grade new turf areas, to apply prescribed amounts of lime, fertilizer, insecticide, and fungicide, and to mow rough and fairway areas at designated cut, exercising care not to injure turf or shrubs.
  • Cut turf on green and tee areas, using hand mower and power mower.
  • Connect hoses and sprinkler systems at designated points on course to irrigate turf.
  • Dig and rake ground to prepare new greens, grades, and clean traps and repair road beds, using shovels, rakes, spades, and other tools.
  • May plant, trim, and spray trees and shrubs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

No Prior experience or training required. Must be at least 16 years of age.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License possessed for at least 6 months preferred

Defensive driving with Tulsa County within 6 months of hired preferred
