Parks Maintenance Lead – O'Brien Park

Pay: $19.96 per hour (Hourly) – Full Time / Part Time

Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Parks Maintenance Lead is responsible for the performance of semi-skilled, manual, and limited skilled workers in the care, maintenance, and repair of sports fields, providing leadership and ensuring high‑quality finished products.

Essential Job Functions

Maintain turf and grass sports fields in an acceptable playing condition, operate tractors and specialized equipment for tilling, cultivating, grading, and applying chemicals, fertilizers, insecticides, rubber fill, and fungicides. Mow, drag, and fill turf to designated heights and drag and fill turf areas to the appropriate level. Teach operation of equipment to other employees and supervise project crews. Perform repairs, patches, filling, and corrective maintenance on artificial turf fields to ensure safety and playability. Connect hoses and sprinkler systems, repair irrigation leaks and operational controls, dig and rake baseball mounds, grade infields, clean sports fields, and repair roadbeds with hand tools. May plant, trim, and spray trees and shrubs. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Directly leads 5 to 20 employees at the sports complexes.
• Interviews, trains, plans, assigns, and directs work; appraises performance; rewards and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: High school graduate or GED plus 12 credit hours from an accredited college or trade school in turf management, horticulture or a related field; or over three years of satisfactory full‑time paid employment in golf course maintenance with demonstrated supervisory skills. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Operate tractors with attachments and light automotive equipment; operate power equipment and hand tools; supervise, perform recordkeeping, diagnose and repair equipment; install and repair irrigation systems; understand standard practices, safety precautions, and park maintenance techniques; perform heavy manual labor; teach operations; control work of others; read chemical labels; interact professionally with supervisors, subordinates and the public.

Certifications and Licenses: Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License (minimum 6 months), Defensive driving with Tulsa County within 6 months of hire, Certified Chemical Applicators Permit (Category III).

Physical Demands

Requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, lifting up to 10, 25, or 50 pounds, and exposure to wet, humid, and outdoor conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes, chemicals, potential electrical shock, and loud noise.

Work Environment

Outdoor work with exposure to weather, mechanical parts, fumes, chemicals, loud noise, and occasional electrical shock.
