Job summary

Huron-Clinton Metroparks seeks a part-time groundskeeper to maintain the park golf course and support daily operations. You will operate reel and rotary mowers on greens, tees, and fairways, rake bunkers, seed divots, and manage landscape beds with mulch.

The role requires physical stamina, ability to work in varied weather, and flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays. You’ll join a team focused on safe tool use and high standards of course conditioning.

Qualifications

  • Ability to operate hand and power tools safely.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and varied park hours.
  • Must be able to traverse sandy, marshy, or wooded terrain.

  • Operate Green, Tee and Fairway reel mowers.
  • Operate Rotary Rough mowers.
  • Rake and edge Sand Bunkers.
  • Operate Weed Whip.
  • Operate Utility Carts.
  • Weed and spread mulch in Landscape Beds.
  • Edge Sprinkler Heads.
  • Hand seed divots.
  • Pick up garbage and tree limbs.
  • Perform pin placement rotation on greens.

Job description

PAY RATE

$16.17 per hour (up to 1,500 hours per year).

Eligible part-time employees will receive up to a $5.75 per hour retention bonus for all hours worked from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Work activities in this position primarily involve the maintenance of the park golf course.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The list below is intended to describe the general nature of duties only. Employee shall perform other duties as assigned.

  • Operate Green, Tee and Fairway reel mowers
  • Operate Rotary Rough mowers
  • Rake and edge Sand Bunkers
  • Operate Weed Whip
  • Operate Utility Carts
  • Weed and spread mulch in Landscape Beds
  • Edge Sprinkler Heads
  • Hand seed divots
  • Pick up garbage and tree limbs
  • Perform pin placement rotation on greens
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work varied hours depending upon park demands
  • Ability to traverse sandy, marshy or wooded areas with even or uneven terrain
  • Ability to load, unload and move materials between work locations
  • Ability to get along with co-workers, supervisors, and park visitors
  • Ability to distinguish letters and symbols
  • Will be required to work assigned Special Events, Weekends, Evenings and Holidays
  • Will be required to adjust schedule to meet organizational needs
  • Ability to perform essential duties
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED

Hand & power tools; mowers; trucks, tractors; heavy equipment; telephone; radio; fax machine; computer to include word processing, spreadsheet, and data base applications.
