Job summary

Berlitz in the Washington, DC area seeks a German Instructor for our in-person program with remote options. You will teach German to assigned classes and support students in line with Berlitz teaching and customer service standards.

Responsibilities include level assessments, ongoing coaching, and incorporating learning technology while maintaining accurate records. Availability 9:00 am to 4:00 pm supports our daytime program in Tysons/DC area.

Job description

Summary of Position

Under the direction of the Service Delivery Manager and Academic Specialist, the German Instructor demonstrates commitment and passion for quality language instruction and education, representing an expert in teaching and an ambassador for Berlitz. The instructor teaches the required languages to assigned classes of students and provides student support in accordance with Berlitz teaching and customer service principles. The instructor also participates in professional development courses and activities, ensuring familiarity with goal‑oriented, student‑centered instruction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Deliver lessons in accordance with Berlitz teaching principles: focusing on the goals, needs, and interests of students.
• Conduct level assessments and needs analyses, as assigned by Service Delivery Manager or Academic Specialist.
• Work with private and group students at the Learning Center, one of our offsite locations, or virtually, as assigned by Service Delivery Manager.
• Meet with Academic Specialist regularly to participate in lesson evaluation and coaching plan to strengthen teaching skills and ensure SMART goals are met.
• Complete training and professional development modules in @Berlitz Learning website and/or face‑to‑face live sessions, assigned by Academic Specialist.
• Maintain student pedagogical and attendance records up to date.
• Integrate learning technology into teaching programs and maintain shared teaching resource materials.
• Perform duties as deemed fit for proper execution and delegated by the Service Delivery Manager or Academic Specialist.

Qualifications and Experience

• Eligible to work in the United States.
• Four‑year college/university degree or equivalent.
• Expert‑level German, intermediate English.
• Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Be flexible in working hours.
• Be able to take initiative and work independently.

Availability during the day from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
