Job summary

Oakland County is seeking a Custodian with Facilities Maintenance & Operations – Building Custodial to keep county offices and public spaces clean, safe, and welcoming.

This onsite role offers hourly pay between $16.71 and $22.61 and opportunities to contribute to the daily experience of employees and residents while working in a collaborative county team.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications and be able to complete a six-month probationary period, with licensing requirements as noted.

Qualifications

  • Have passed their 18th birthday; OR be at least 16 years old and a high school graduate; OR GED; OR emancipated minor.
  • Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical for this classification.
  • NOTE: A valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license required for certain positions; Out of Country license holders must obtain MI license before hire date.
  • Successfully complete the six month probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain County offices and buildings by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and polishing surfaces.
  • Empty waste receptacles and ensure workspaces and common areas remain neat and presentable.
  • Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms with necessary supplies.
  • Move furniture, equipment, and supplies to support daily operations and facility needs.
  • Receive, unload, and store deliveries as needed.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and professional environment for employees and visitors.

As a Custodian with Facilities Maintenance & Operations – Building Custodial, you'll play an essential role in maintaining County buildings by ensuring offices and public spaces are clean, organized, and ready to serve employees and the community. Your work will have a direct impact on the daily experience of everyone who enters our facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Required Minimum Qualifications

Have passed their 18th birthday; OR be at least 16 years old and a high school graduate; OR have completed the state requirements for the General Educational Development Test (GED); OR be an emancipated minor.

Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical established for this classification.

NOTE: A valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license will be required for certain positions. Out of Country driver’s license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver’s license before the hire date.

Successfully complete the six month probationary period.
