Job summary

The City of Albert Lea is seeking a part-time gate tender for the transfer station. Schedule is casual part-time, one to three days a week with every other Saturday; hours vary by season.

Responsibilities include greeting customers, collecting fees, directing drivers, maintaining records, and daily housekeeping. Requires HS diploma or GED, 1 year of customer service, andLandfill Operator III certification within six months.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
• 1 year of customer service-related experience.
• Must become certified as a Landfill Operator III within six months.

Responsibilities

• Greets customers and inspects loads; determines fees per the fee schedule and records each load.
• Collects fees; provides correct change and receipts; establishes credit accounts as appropriate.
• Directs drivers to unloading areas based on material type and oversees unloading to ensure proper handling.
• Refers residents to Freeborn County Environmental Services when appropriate.
• Explains rules on materials not accepted and prohibits unsafe handling of hazardous materials.
• Keeps the office and surrounding area clean and orderly; handles dumpster area around the transfer station.
• Opens/closes gate and building; performs day-end closing; balances receipts and separates payments.
• Delivers deposit/paperwork to City Hall.
• Monitors activity and directs people to proper locations; maintains logs and records.
• Performs daily paperwork and maintains accurate transaction records.
• Shovels snow and mows grass as needed; may assist in lifting bags.
• May purchase miscellaneous supplies as needed and approved.
