Job summary

Hallberg Center for the Arts in Wyoming, MN invites applications for a Gallery Director to partner with the Executive Director as the public face of the Center. You will lead community networking, host exhibitions and events, and oversee gallery operations.

About Us

Located in a repurposed church in Wyoming, MN, the Hallberg Center for the Arts is a thriving community hub celebrating its 11th year. We host ~20 exhibitions annually across two galleries, offer art classes for all ages, and present free community events, including monthly concert series and open mics. Driven by a dedicated network of volunteers, staff, and a growing membership, we are committed to making the arts accessible to all.

Position Overview

The Gallery Director works in close partnership with the Executive Director to serve as the welcoming public face of the Art Center. This role focuses on community networking, event hosting, artist engagement, grant assistance, and gallery operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Community & PR: Act as an ambassador for the Center; host public events (exhibition openings, music events, etc.); draft bi-monthly press releases; manage gallery social media; Attend networking meetings, cultivating relationships.
  • Artist & Exhibition Support: Serve on annual exhibition selection juries; communicate with upcoming artists; assist with show installation alongside volunteers; facilitate opening night activities (e.g., artist talks).
  • Gallery Operations: Open/close the building and set an inviting atmosphere; greet visitors and promote memberships; maintain daily work logs.
  • Development & Outreach: Assist the Executive Director with grant writing and fundraising (e.g., Give to the Max Day); seek local sponsorships; coordinate volunteers for community outreach events (e.g., Arts in the Park).
Qualifications
  • Art Ecosystem Knowledge: A passion for the arts with a strong ability to connect with and support creative talent. Art degree or similar preferred.
  • Community Networker: A natural relationship-builder with excellent interpersonal and public-facing skills.
  • Tech-Savvy & Self-Motivated: Quick to learn new tools; proficient in Google Workspace, MS Office, Canva, and PayPal. Photoshop a plus.
  • Integrity & Leadership: High ethical standards to handle organizational details, with a collaborative, self-driven work ethic.
