Job summary

Kaddatz Galleries in Fergus Falls seeks an Executive Director to advance partnerships, lead financial and fundraising efforts, and guide marketing, community and partner relationships. The role oversees budgets, staff supervision, gift gallery operations, and major fundraising initiatives, reporting to the Board.

The ED will shape strategic direction, support education initiatives, and ensure financial stability and artistic advancement within the gallery network of Otter Tail County.

Qualifications

About Kaddatz Galleries

The mission of the Kaddatz Galleries is to foster visual arts education and appreciation and to maintain a gallery that celebrates the work of area artists and honors the legacy of Charles Beck.


Position Description

Located in beautiful Otter Tail County, the Gallery is part of a thriving arts community in downtown Fergus Falls. The new Executive Director will have an opportunity to work alongside the Board to shape and mold their existing strategic plan, and embark on new exhibit and education initiatives.


The position requires a passionate individual who will advance partnerships with artists and their audiences throughout the region.


Areas of responsibility include the organization’s finances, fundraising, marketing & communications, community & partner relationships, website maintenance, and oversight of the Kaddatz Gift Gallery. While specific roles and responsibilities are assigned to other staff/contractors, the organizational strength for this position lies in harnessing the abilities of all to move the organization forward with financial stability and artistic aptitude.


BOARD RELATIONSHIPS


  • Sustains clear organizational communication with the Board of Directors.

  • Maintains Board-related materials.

  • Works directly with the Board President on communications with and to the Board.


FINANCE


  • Works with a contracted accountant and bookkeeper to pay bills, manage financial records, and create budgets for the organization.

  • Keeps all quarterly and annual reporting up to date, in compliance with 501c3 status and standards, including all employee taxes as recorded in monthly payroll.

  • Tracks all arts commissions to sales records and pays artists in a timely manner.

  • Downloads all monthly bank statements (checking and savings), sales tax collected by cash/checks and makes the monthly deposits.


FUNDRAISING


  • Works with the Board of Directors on building strategic relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and other supporters of Kaddatz Galleries. This includes appeals, campaigns, special events, membership database, and other fundraising initiatives.

  • Researches and writes grants to support the operational and program needs of the organization.

  • Oversees compliance with grant funded activities, including all reporting (interim, final reports, etc.)

  • Works with Support Work Groups (membership, sponsorship, special events, endowment, individual donors).

  • In addition, works with the Endowment Advisory Committee to Kaddatz Galleries Agency/Endowment Fund with West Central Initiative.


MARKETING, COMMUNICATIONS, and WEBSITE


  • Maintains mailing lists.

  • Plans and participates in developing digital marketing, and marketing plan for programming.

  • Creates and distributes twice monthly e-Newsletter, maintains all social media accounts, writes and distributes press releases, and designs digital assets.

  • Negotiates advertising contracts with all vendors.

  • Maintains and updates website regularly, including updated photography, upcoming events.


COMMUNITY AND PARTNER RELATIONSHIPS


  • Serves as the representative and spokesperson of the Kaddatz Galleries.

  • Identifies and establishes relationships with individuals and organizations that increase the footprint of the work of Kaddatz Galleries including, but not limited to, other arts organizations, funders, donors, and downtown businesses.

  • Initiates the sending notes of gratitude to individuals, organizations and businesses.


GALLERY STAFF


  • Educates Gallery staff about current exhibitions in the two Gallery spaces, with six exhibitions per year.

  • Builds a cohesive team through hiring/supervision of all paid gallery staff and paid contractors, consistent DEI and accessibility practices.

  • Creates and oversees a list of expectations to assure that all gallery and program staff are delivering consistent and quality guest services.


Maintains regular communications with ARTSPACE projects, Building Manager, and Kaddatz Loft residents, especially about Gallery events and shared use of the Kaddatz Community Room.


GIFT GALLERY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Oversees management of inventory and ensures items are entered into the POS (Point of Sale) system.

  • Prepares and gathers contracts and needed paperwork from Gift Gallery artists.

  • Ensures/Maintains Kaddatz Gift Gallery record-keeping.

  • Cultivates relationships with regional artists to offer the Kaddatz Gift Gallery as an opportunity for art sales.


EVENTS


  • Creates a task list to be executed, in collaboration with volunteers, for each Kaddatz Event, including artists’ receptions, special fundraising events, Kaddatz Connect, Gala, etc. that includes a timeline for completion of each item on the checklist.

  • Works with Board and volunteers to ensure all event needs are addressed well in advance of the event.


OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

Job Classification: Full-time at-will, exempt


Location: Fergus Falls or area community, not a remote position


Salary: Commensurate with experience, $52,000 - $55,000 plus benefits.

  • Computer proficiency, especially Mac OS, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Square commerce, Canva, Givebutter(fundraising)

  • Display a sense of curiosity, entrepreneurial spirit, inclusivity and patron-centric focus.
