Job summary

Jackson County Florida 4-H is seeking a detail-oriented assistant to support projects involving specialty and ornamental crops in our greenhouse environment. You will help with setup, maintenance, fertilization, pH/EC checks, potting up, weed control, pest scouting, and plant propagation to enable data collection and analysis.

You will monitor environmental controls—temperature, humidity, and light—and adjust conditions to optimize growth.

• Ability to adhere to safety protocols and best practices when handling plants, chemicals, and equipment.
• Work well in a team setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist with project setup and maintenance for various specialty and ornamental crops (KB).
• Perform key plant maintenance tasks including fertilization, pH and EC monitoring, potting up, weed management, pest scouting, and plant propagation.
• Aid in harvesting and processing plant material for data collection and sample analysis.
• Monitor and adjust environmental controls such as temperature, humidity, and light levels in greenhouse settings to optimize plant growth conditions.

Preferred

• Associate degree or ongoing education in Biology, Horticulture, Botany, Plant Science, Agronomy, or related fields.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams).
