Job summary

McHenry Township Fire Protection District is seeking part-time firefighters to respond to medical emergencies, fires, and other incidents, providing fire suppression and EMS. The role includes 12-hour shifts, off-duty responses, and a pathway to EMS certifications funded by the district.

New hires without First Responder, EMT-B, or BOFF certifications will be enrolled in required courses at McHenry County College, with tuition reimbursed after a defined period.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• US resident
• Ability to read and write English
• Valid State Driver's License (IL or WI)
• 21+ years old, or 18-21 with college progress toward an associate degree in Fire Science
• Cadet/Explorer program completion acceptable

Responsibilities

• Respond to medical emergencies, fires, and other incidents to provide fire suppression and EMS
• Operate and maintain firefighting and rescue equipment
• Participate in firefighting, hazmat, and special teams
• Engage in fire prevention and training activities
• Work 12-hour shifts and respond off-duty as needed
