Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is seeking an OPS Fish and Wildlife Technician – 77902483 in ALACHUA, FL. The role is part-time, with 20–25 hours weekly, and involves fieldwork to support freshwater fishery monitoring and management, including creel surveys conducted by boat.

The position requires a high school diploma with 2 years of post‑secondary experience (or an Associate’s degree substitute). Prior boat operation and data entry experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma and two years of post-high school experience in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction is required.
  • Associate’s degree in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related field may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience operating motorboats and trailering; coursework in fisheries or related field; and experience sampling freshwater fish and data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with freshwater fishery monitoring and management activities including creel survey, boat electrofishing, data entry, equipment maintenance, outreach events, transporting fish and other research projects.
  • Conduct creel survey by interviewing anglers and accurately recording survey data while operating a boat independently and safely.
  • Operate FWC equipment (e.g., trucks, trailers and motorboats) for FWC business in a safe and lawful manner.
  • Perform field work in all weather conditions, including hot, cold, windy or rainy conditions as long as not dangerous.
  • Position is not eligible for telework.
