New York Edge in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a part-time Fashion Design Specialist to lead fashion arts activities after school within New York City public schools. You will organize, lead, and promote interest in fashion design, sewing, and related arts while aligning with state standards.

The role requires knowledge of fashion design, sewing, illustration and garment-making techniques, plus experience teaching youth and strong communication.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required; some college preferred
• Must have passion for New York Edge's mission and demonstrated interest in education and youth development
• Prior experience teaching and instructing youth preferred
• Must be knowledgeable in fashion design, sewing, illustration, and garment-making techniques

Responsibilities

• Establish and enforce behavior rules for students
• Organize, lead, and promote fashion arts activities such as fashion design, sewing, garment knowledge, and illustration
• Direct rehearsals and progress from fundamentals to final projects
• Follow curriculum and adapt activities to student needs
• Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities
• Explain techniques and safety procedures to participants
• Evaluate activities and adapt teaching methods to student needs
• Progressive development of student skills leading to final projects
