Job summary

Hawthorne Valley Association's Farm Place Based Learning Center is seeking a Temporary Children's Program Assistant in Ghent, NY. The role is part-time, approximately 20 hours per week, through November 20, 2026, with pay $20-$23/hour.

You will work with visiting school groups and children ages 8-16 on a biodynamic farm, leading hands-on activities and ensuring safety while fostering respect, curiosity, and collaboration in a Waldorf education-inspired program.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children ages 8-16, especially in hands-on or outdoor settings.
• Basic knowledge of animal care and gardening.
• Interest in farm-based crafts and activities.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to collaborate and learn new skills.
• Flexible, curious attitude toward new ideas.
• Knowledge of Waldorf Education and/or biodynamic agriculture is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Create a warm, nurturing environment for visiting children, teachers, chaperones, parents, and participants.
• Lead hands-on, farm-based educational activities for ages 8-16.
• Assist with cooking, dairy, animal care, gardening, crafts, and barn cleaning.
• Ensure farm-based activities are conducted safely.
• Maintain tools, materials, and supplies for programs.
• Collaborate with team on program planning and implementation.
