The University of Maine is seeking part-time, temporary faculty for the Department of History for fall 2026 and spring 2027. Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in History or a closely related field, with preference given to those with teaching experience and a PhD.
This opportunity includes responsibilities such as syllabus development and student engagement. A wide range of benefits, including tuition assistance and comprehensive insurance coverage, is offered.
In the Department of History, one or more courses may be offered to part‑time, temporary faculty members in fall 2026 and/or spring 2027. Courses available in fall 2026 and spring 2027 could include US History, European History, World History, Asian History, Maine Studies, or history of the US and Vietnam.
Syllabus development aligned with departmental expectations, lesson planning, assignment design, grading, office hours, correspondence with students, use of an online learning management system and/or other instructional software, course coordination meetings with other faculty members, and required orientation and training.
Positions require teaching in person on campus.
Part‑time temporary faculty members may be rehired in subsequent semesters based on course availability, schedule, funding, and performance. Continuation is subject to the terms of the PATFA bargaining agreement and other applicable university policies.
