General Description

This is a part-time instructional assignment under the general direction of the Dean of Allied Health, Child Development, Kinesiology and Public Safety. The professor must integrate the basic principles of nursing into classroom and clinical instruction, assume responsibility for students in clinical facilities, and maintain communication between facilities and the College. The maximum teaching load is 10 units per semester, which may include evening and weekend hours.

Responsibilities
  • Provide innovative and effective instruction in accordance with current pedagogy and established course outlines and expectations.
  • Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance policies; maintain regular and substantive contact with students.
  • Maintain and submit required student attendance and scholastic records in the Learning Management System (grades and syllabi).
  • Utilize the Learning Management System to deliver, prepare, and grade class assignments and examinations.
  • Maintain and utilize effective skills in instructional design, applications, and methods.
  • Post and maintain regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy.
  • Participate in the development and review of curriculum.
  • Participate in the development of teaching-learning methods and materials.
  • Participate in departmental, area, and campus professional activities/committees.
  • Represent the college within the Merced community and professional circles.
  • Participate in the college's learning outcomes assessment program to improve student learning outcomes.
Typical Qualifications

Required:

  • Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a Master’s degree.
  • Any Bachelor’s degree AND two years of full-time experience as LVN or RN OR
  • Any Associate’s degree AND six years of full-time experience as LVN or RN.
  • Must meet California Department of Public Health (CDPH) requirements.
  • CDPH requirements: 1337.15. (a) A person who provides instruction or training as part of a certified nurse assistant precertification training program may be any licensed vocational nurse or registered nurse with no less than two years of nursing experience, including at least one year in care of chronically ill or elderly patients in relevant settings.
  • Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to foster an inclusive learning and work environment.

Preferred:

  • Current technology skills related to teaching in the discipline and willingness to pursue future technological developments.
