This is an instructional assignment under the general direction of the Dean of Science, Math and Engineering. The professor may teach all levels of biological sciences. The maximum teaching load is 10 units per semester, which may include evening and weekend hours.

Typical Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree in any biological science from an accredited institution OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in any biological science AND Master’s in biochemistry, biophysics or marine science OR
  • Equivalency or the equivalent
  • Promotion of culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture an inclusive learning and work environment

Preferred:

  • Interest in organismal biology or ecology
  • Teaching experience in biology
  • Current technology skills related to teaching in the discipline and willingness to pursue future developments
Responsibilities
  • Provide innovative and effective instruction in accordance with current pedagogy and course outlines
  • Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance policies; maintain regular and substantive contact with students
  • Maintain and submit required student attendance and scholastic records in the Learning Management System (grades and syllabi)
  • Utilize the Learning Management System to deliver, prepare, and grade class assignments and examinations
  • Maintain and utilize effective skills in instructional design, applications, and methods
  • Post and maintain regular office hours in accordance with policy
  • Participate in curriculum development and review
  • Develop teaching-learning methods and materials
  • Participate in departmental, area, and campus professional activities/committees
  • Represent the college within the Merced community and in professional circles
  • Participate in the college’s learning outcomes assessment program to continually improve student learning outcomes

Employee Benefits

Sick leave: part-time faculty employed on an hourly basis accrue sick leave credit at a rate of one hour for each twenty hours of paid service.

Condition of Employment
