Job summary

South University seeks an instructor to facilitate competency-based PTA education in a dynamic, campus-based program in Florida. The role involves developing and evaluating the PTA curriculum, aligning instruction with program goals, and supporting student achievement through structured learning experiences.

The incumbent will collaborate with faculty across campuses, participate in governance, and uphold professional standards while maintaining licensure.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from a regionally accredited university (preferred).
• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university (required).
• Minimum of three (3) years of full-time post-licensure clinical experience in physical therapy, including PT/PTA relationship.
• Experience in teaching at post-secondary or college institutions (preferred).
• Membership in a professional association related to instruction (preferred).
• Understanding of contemporary physical practice and its relation to PTA education.
• Service to physical therapy education, the community, and/or the profession.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build relationships with students.
• Outstanding conflict resolution skills.
• Demonstrated time management and detail-oriented skills.
• Computer-based skills (e.g., software, analytic, and report writing).
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Ability to develop professional rapport with diverse campus constituents.
• Ability to work independently without continued supervision.
• Ability to learn from students’ participation and demonstrate fairness and empathy.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The instructor facilitates meaningful learning of the course competencies in the curriculum and proactively supports all facets of the learning environment. S/He provides education through learning-centered instruction that will enable graduates to fulfill the evolving needs of the marketplace. S/He encourages a culture of learning that values mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning and ethics as well as personal and professional development. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Provides competency-based education which aligns with the South University model of curricula as well as supports the South University style of system delivery.
2. Develops, implements, and evaluates physical therapist assistant (PTA) curriculum in collaboration with other PTA faculty on-campus and across campuses.
3. Enables the achievement of pre-described exit competencies for student achievement and evaluation of learning by providing instruction which fosters competencies and establish student performance criteria and evaluation.
4. Participates in the governance and short- and long-term planning of the program and the university.
5. Delivers learning-centered instruction by establishing a classroom environment conducive to learning and student involvement as well as effectively planning and preparing for classes and student success.
6. Promotes student success by showing flexibility in style and work schedule as well as exhibiting a passion for teaching and students and engaging students in the learning process.

1. Manages the learning environment through keeping accurate records, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing school/campus academic and attendance policies.
2. Contributes to a learning culture by participating on curriculum and system task forces, supporting local campus events such as orientation and graduation, and participating in various other workshops and meetings.
3. Relates professional/life/industry experience to learning by the continuation of professional/technical skills development, the introduction of industry perspective into courses, and the active awareness of professional/industry trends and opportunities.
4. Fulfills other responsibilities as determined by the Program Director.
5. Participates in annual faculty development as required by the university and to maintain state licensure as a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant.
6. Contributes to a positive campus culture by participating on curriculum and system task forces, supporting local campus events, such as orientation and graduation, and participating in various professional development workshops and program-based meetings.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from a regionally accredited university (preferred). Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university (required).
• Minimum of three (3) years of full-time (or equivalent) post-licensure clinical experience in physical therapy, including experience in the PT/PTA relationship (required).
• Experience in a variety of areas of teaching (e.g., academic, clinical, continuing education, in-service), in post-secondary or college institutions (preferred)
• Membership in a professional association tied to area of instruction preferred.
• Understanding of contemporary physical practice and its relation to PTA education.
• Service on behalf of physical therapy education, the community, and/or the profession.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to build successful relationships with student populations.
• Outstanding conflict resolution skills.
