Job summary

South University seeks an on-campus Adjunct Faculty member to deliver instruction and promote student success across programs. The role emphasizes aligning course design with university models and facilitating engaging learning experiences in a timely and professional manner.

The candidate will design and deliver content, stay current with industry practices, and collaborate with campus staff on committees and events. Teaching experience and appropriate degrees are required.

Qualifications

  • Terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution in the discipline to be taught (with concentration in the teaching discipline).
  • For undergraduate programs, a master’s degree with concentration in the teaching discipline is required.
  • For associate programs in physical therapist assistant, a bachelor’s degree with preferred master’s degree.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Faculty responsibilities as outlined in the faculty job description and the Faculty Supplement to the South University Employee Handbook.
  • Designs and delivers instruction in alignment with the South University model.
  • Relates professional/life/industry experience to learning by continuing professional/technical skills development.
  • Promotes student success by showing flexibility and exhibiting a passion for teaching and students.
  • Manages the educational process to ensure a positive educational experience.
  • Practices effective outreach to at-risk and/or absent students.
  • Communicates consistently with Supervisors, University Administrators, Faculty, and other South University Departments.
  • Manages the learning environment through keeping accurate records and enforcing academic policies.
  • Participates in the Faculty development process to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Supports local campus by participating on committees, events such as orientation and graduation.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Adjunct Faculty responsibilities include classroom instruction,facilitating meaningful learning of course outcomes, assistingstudents toward successful program completion, and promoting theacademic well-being of the program. Adjunct Faculty alsoparticipate in activities that promote the stature of the academicprograms, Departments, and Colleges and abide by the mandates setby the South University Board of Trustees and Administration.Incumbent must assure that the South University philosophy isconsidered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of thisposition: quality services to clients; development, growth,involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economicprinciples; and maintenance of an environment which is conducive toinnovation, positive thinking and expansion. (This positionis on-campus. NOT remote.)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • For graduate programs, a terminal degree from a regionallyaccredited institution in the discipline to be taught, with aconcentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduatesemester hours in the teaching discipline) required.
  • For undergraduate programs, a master’s degree from a regionallyaccredited institution in the discipline to be taught, with aconcentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduatesemester hours in the teaching discipline) required.
  • For associate degree programs in physical therapist assistant,an entry-level degree in physical therapy (PT) or physicaltherapist assistant (PTA) and a minimum of a bachelor’s degree froma federally recognized Institutional Accrediting Agency (or itsinternational equivalent) are required. A master’s degree ispreferred.
  • At least six months teaching experience at anotherpost-secondary education institution (preferred).
  • Active, valid, and unencumbered state licensure orcertification as applicable to the discipline.
  • Membership in a professional association tied to area ofinstruction (preferred).
  • Practical experience in the discipline of the program andknowledge of current best practices (in field).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including theability to build successful relationships with students andfaculty.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail. Computerbased skills (i.e., software, analytical, and report writingskills) and experience with computerized learning managementsystems.
