About the Opportunity

Portland Community College is accepting applications to be considered for Part-time Faculty assignments in Writing. The department will review new applications on a monthly basis. Current anticipated needs are experienced instructors in Composition, First-year Writing, and Creative Writing. Courses include WR 115, WR 121, and WR 227. This is a Part-time Faculty Interest Pool; applicants may be considered for substitute assignments as well as full-term class assignments.

Eligibility

Applicants must be residents of Oregon or Washington, and the employment offers are contingent on the ability to establish residence in either state. Reasonable accommodation for the hiring process is available; contact the PCC Talent Acquisition Team at pccjobs@pcc.edu if needed.

Responsibilities

Teach the specified writing courses (WR 115, WR 121, WR 227). Duties may include developing lesson plans, leading classroom instruction, assessing student work, and participating in substitute teaching assignments.

Qualifications
  • MFA, MA, or PhD in English, Literature, or Rhetoric/Composition; have taught at least four college-level composition classes or have equivalent classroom experience through a mentoring or internship program;
  • OR MA or PhD in an interdisciplinary field with a minimum of 30 graduate quarter credit-hours in English, Literature, or Rhetoric/Composition and the same teaching experience requirement.
Compensation & Benefits

New part-time faculty begin at Step 1 of the current salary schedule. Hourly rates are determined based on the type of course taught. Part-time faculty may be eligible for Oregon Sick Leave and retirement savings plans. Veterans’ Preference applies per Oregon law.
