Job description

Portland Community College (PCC) invites applications for Part‑Time Faculty assignments in Political Science. PCC currently limits employment to individuals residing in Oregon or Washington and requires applicants to establish residence in either state.

This is a Part‑Time Faculty Interest Pool—an opportunity for qualified candidates to be considered for substitute assignments as well as full‑term class assignments as needs arise throughout the Academic Year.

Instructor Qualifications

• For all PS courses (except PS 211 and PS 280B): Master’s degree in Political Science OR Master’s degree in International Relations.
• For PS 211 (Peace and Conflict) and PS 280B (Community Service and Action Seminar): Master’s degree in Political Science, Sociology, Conflict Resolution, Peace Studies, or Peace and Conflict Studies OR Master’s degree in any field.
• At least 24 quarter graduate credits in Conflict Resolution, Peace Studies, or Peace and Conflict.

Applicants will be asked to list PCC courses they are prepared to teach. Official transcripts and evidence of credentials from regionally accredited U.S. institutions or foreign institutions with equivalent accreditation are required and must be submitted within two weeks of an offer.

Compensation

Newly hired Part‑Time Faculty at PCC will generally start at Step 1 of the current salary schedule. Hourly rates are determined based on the type of course taught (Lecture, Lab, or Lecture/Lab). More detailed information on the compensation schedule can be found on the PCC website.

Veterans Preference
