Job summary

PCC Portland Community College is looking for part-time faculty members to teach Music courses. Applicants will be considered for a pool of potential assignments based on departmental needs during the academic year.

A Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience in Music is required for various courses, including Music Theory and Performance. The position offers a collaborative community and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Music or equivalent professional experience required.
• Minimum of six graduate quarter credits in music theory.
• Minimum of six years experience in music engineering or production for technology courses.

Responsibilities

• Design and teach courses in Music.
• Create instructional materials for assigned courses.
• Supervise student work as required by the course.

Job description

Position Overview

Portland Community College is accepting applications to be considered for part‑time faculty assignments in Music. The department will review applications in this pool as the need arises for new part‑time faculty in this area. This is NOT a specific open position, but a part‑time faculty interest pool from which the department will select applicants based on course assignment needs during the academic year. Your application may be considered for substitute assignments as well as full‑term class assignments.

Eligibility

PCC currently limits employment to individuals residing in Oregon and Washington. Employment offers are contingent upon the ability to establish residence in Oregon or Washington.

Responsibilities

Part‑time faculty assignments in Music may include designing, teaching, and assessing courses, creating instructional materials, and supervising student work as required by the assigned course.

Instructor Qualifications

Music Theory and Sight‑Singing / Ear Training Courses (MUS 111, 111C, 112, 112C, 113, 113C, 211A, 211B, 212, 212B, 213, 213B)

• Master’s degree or higher in Music (MM, MS, MA, PhD, or DMA)
• Minimum of six graduate quarter credits in music theory

Music Performance and Applied Music Lesson Courses (MUS 131, 153A‑C, 158A‑F, 195A‑F, 220A‑F, 221A‑F)

• Master’s degree or higher in Music (MM, MS, MA, PhD, or DMA) OR Equivalent professional experience (six or more years) performing, conducting, recording and/or teaching

Music Technology Courses (MUS 170, 171, 172)

• Master’s degree or higher in Music (MM, MS, MA, PhD, or DMA)
• Minimum of six years of experience in regular music engineering, mixing, mastering, sound design or production
