Job summary

Portland Community College is seeking Part-time Faculty for the Dental Hygiene program located in the Vanport Building in downtown Portland, Oregon. Instructors must hold a current Oregon dental hygiene license and meet PCC qualifications; immunizations are required.

Candidates should bring clinical experience and teaching potential, with opportunities to list courses they can teach and participate in PCC’s academic community. PCC offers comprehensive benefits and union-negotiated pay.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Instructor Qualifications: Registered Dental Hygienist; graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program; associate degree in dental hygiene; bachelor’s degree; active Oregon dental hygiene license; CPR/BLS; Oregon Local Anesthesia Endorsement; Oregon Nitrous Oxide Permit; minimum 3 years full-time clinical hygiene experience (or 3500 hours in last 5 years).
  • Current immunization records (MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, TB, Tdap, Influenza, COVID-19).
  • Preferred qualifications include: Master’s degree, teaching experience, Expanded Practice Permit, Restorative Functions Endorsement, CDA credential, clinical dental assisting experience, ADHA membership.

Responsibilities

  • Teach dental hygiene courses and participate in curriculum planning.
  • Review and list PCC courses you can teach as part of the application.
  • Maintain professional credentials and clinical practice as required by PCC.

Instructor Qualifications

Minimum Instructor Qualifications:

  1. 1. Registered Dental Hygienist
  2. 2. Graduate of a dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation
  3. 3. Associate degree in Dental Hygiene
  4. 4. Baccalaureate degree in any field
  5. 5. Current active dental hygiene license in the state of Oregon
  6. 6. Current Health Care Provider CPR/BLS
  7. 7. Oregon Local Anesthesia Endorsement
  8. 8. Oregon Nitrous Oxide Permit
  9. 9. Minimum of three years of full time experience as a clinical dental hygienist (or equivalent of 3500 hours within the last 5 years)
  1. Current immunization records: Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR), Varicella, Hepatitis B, TB Test, Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap), Influenza, COVID-19 Vaccination

Preferred Instructor Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a field related to education or dental hygiene
  • Experience teaching in a dental hygiene program
  • Expanded Practice Permit
  • Restorative Functions Endorsement
  • Certified Dental Assistant (CDA)credential
  • Clinical experience as a dental assistant
  • Active membership in the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA)

Part-time Faculty Compensation at PCC

Newly hired Part-time Faculty at PCC will generally start at Step 1 of the current salary schedule.

Hourly rates are determine based upon the type of course taught (Lecture, Lab, or Lecture/Lab).
