Job description

The Department of Mathematics and Science in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Pratt Institute (Brooklyn and Manhattan Campuses) invites applications as part of an open call to join our pool of part-time faculty.

The department provides foundational and advanced STEM coursework tailored for emerging artists, designers, and architects. We are seeking qualified part-time instructors to teach undergraduate lecture and laboratory/studio-integrated courses across the following curricular areas:

  • Mathematics & Quantitative Reasoning
  • Computational & Applied Sciences, including coding and AI literacy
  • Physical Sciences
  • Chemical & Materials Sciences
  • Earth, Environmental, & Ecological Sciences
  • Life & Biological Sciences

Our courses contribute to Pratt’s General Education program in support of our diverse creative majors. Following a studio schedule (one three-hour meeting per week), we maintain small class sizes (ranging from 15 to 22 students).

Devoted to a creative learning community, Pratt recognizes the strength that stems from diverse perspectives, ideas, backgrounds, approaches, and experiences. We aspire to continue to grow as a place that always welcomes and encourages individuals of all backgrounds to contribute to and be part of Pratt culture; this aspiration is supported by Pratt’s Office of Engagement, Culture and Community. With a robust Center for Teaching and Learning focused on inclusive teaching and trauma-informed pedagogy, Pratt allows faculty to develop the approaches needed to meet the diverse needs of our students.

A graduate degree in a relevant STEM field is highly preferred, but strong candidates who are progressing towards a graduate degree are also encouraged to apply. We value teaching experience from both traditional and non-traditional instructional settings.

Review of applications will begin immediately; this position is an open call, so the review will be continuous.

Professional references will be requested later in the interview process. Candidates should be prepared to provide at least three professional references, including two current or former managers/supervisors. We encourage submitting up to five references total to ensure alternate contacts are available if needed.

Pay Rate: $2,050 – $2,350 per contact hour with standard 3 credits per course (or prevailing rate in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement). This is a Local 1460 UFCT position.
