Job summary

Palomar College seeks qualified part-time instructors to teach Apprenticeship – Military Programs. Assignments may occur at the San Marcos campus or off-campus locations and via distance education, with day, evening, or weekend scheduling.

Minimum qualifications include an associate degree plus four years of occupational experience, or six years of experience with a journeyman certificate and apprenticeship coursework, or a combination with equivalency as noted.

Qualifications

  • Possession of an associate degree, PLUS four years of occupational experience in the subject matter area to be taught.
  • Six years of occupational experience in the subject matter to be taught, a journeyman’s certificate in the subject matter area to be taught, AND completion of at least twelve (12) semester units of apprenticeship or college level course work.
  • Six years of occupational experience in the subject matter to be taught, AND a minimum of ten years of experience as an apprenticeship instructor for the California Department of Industrial Relations Division of Apprenticeship Standards.
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to the above; use the Equivalency form if needed.

Initial Placement Hourly Range

Initial Placement Hourly Range: $75.81 – $119.20 (instructional); $74.60 – $117.69 (non‑instructional)

Part‑time faculty employees are eligible to elect membership in one of the following retirement plans:

Job Duties

The Occupational and Noncredit Programs department is seeking qualified part‑time instructors to teach Apprenticeship – Military Programs. Teaching assignment(s) may include any of the curriculum approved courses within the discipline of Apprenticeship – Military Programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Must meet one of the sets of qualifications listed under 1) through 4):

  • Possession of an associate degree, PLUS four years of occupational experience in the subject matter area to be taught.
  • Six years of occupational experience in the subject matter to be taught, a journeyman’s certificate in the subject matter area to be taught, AND completion of at least twelve (12) semester units of apprenticeship or college level course work. The twelve (12) semester unit requirement may be satisfied concurrently during the first two years of employment as an apprenticeship instructor.
  • Six years of occupational experience in the subject matter to be taught, AND a minimum of ten years of experience as an apprenticeship instructor for the California Department of Industrial Relations Division of Apprenticeship Standards.
  • A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of the qualifications in 1) through 3) above. You must complete and attach the Application for Equivalency form (www.palomar.edu/hr/equivalency-app/ ), if you do not possess the specific minimum qualifications as stated above, which includes degrees that have not been awarded at the time of submitting the application.

Only coursework completed at, and degrees awarded by, accredited institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education will be considered as satisfying the minimum qualifications. Coursework and degrees that are completed outside of the United States are required to have transcripts evaluated (evaluation to U.S. equivalency and a course by course analysis) by an appropriate U.S. credentials evaluation service. NOTE :

For occupational experience, a “year” is defined as equivalent to 40 hours per week for 10 months. "Occupational experience” does not include teaching experience. Occupational experience includes any experience at the rank of Sergeant or above in the US Marine Corps or an equivalent rank in another branch of the US Armed Services.

Supervision Received

Part‑time faculty members receive supervision from the Division Dean and direction from the Department Chair.

Part‑time faculty members are not to exceed a load of 67%.

Other pre‑employment requirements may be required depending on the position (i.e. certifications or licenses; see applicable job posting section for details). Successful completion of all pre‑employment requirements is mandatory to be eligible for employment.
