This position will begin in the Fall 2026 semester. We are seeking an individual who is enthusiastic, dedicated, self-motivated, and exhibits a high degree of professionalism with a strong commitment to the success of our students. The successful candidate must exhibit the ability to educate in an engaging manner.The candidate will be committed to teaching in a multi-cultural, two-year environment (i.e., a career program offering an A.A.S. in Applied Geography as well as certificates in Cartography/G.I.S. and Geographic Education) with students of all ages, varying levels of education. Montgomery College provides an excellent opportunity to teach in a large, urban community college setting with three campuses. Faculty duties include classroom instruction, assessment, and utilizing instructional technology. The majority of our courses use open educational resources (OERs) to yield cost savings for the students and the most current content for faculty. Incoming faculty will utilize OERs in alignment with the other faculty in the discipline.Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such as face-to-face, on-line, hybrid and/or blended formats during days, evenings and weekends. Montgomery College has three campuses. Faculty may be assigned to any of these campuses and/or teaching online.**Duties and Responsibilities:*** Teach an array of General Education courses in geography, e.g. Introduction to Geography, Global Geography, Cultural Geography, Political Geography, and Physical Geography within the Department of Applied Technology.* Teach a diverse schedule of courses that may include day, night, early morning, weekend, accelerated sections, online/remote, and summer courses.* Engage students in their learning through active collaborative and innovative methods.* Maintain office hours and meet with students outside of class to assist them as necessary.* Mentor students so that they become successful academically and professionally.* Apply culturally relevant pedagogies to the teaching and learning process.* Incorporate the use of educational enterprise platform such as Blackboard and other relevant technology into instruction, including inexpensive or no-cost resources in the development and delivery of instruction.* Actively and enthusiastically participate in Gamma Theta Upsilon, the geography honor society when appropriate.* Teach on all three campuses as needed when necessary as well as off-campus courses.* Ability to create and teach online courses and remote structured teaching.**Required Qualifications:*** Master’s degree in geography or related discipline.* Minimum of five years’ teaching experience at the undergraduate level* Ability to integrate technology and classroom-related computer software into course delivery* Experience in online or remote teaching utilizing Blackboard.* Evidence of teaching or work experience in the field.* Candidates must demonstrate currency in the social science (BSSD) and natural science (NSLD) courses as well as specialty courses in geography: Physical, Economic, Political, Global, Intro, Cultural, U.S. and Canada, Conservation and Cartography.* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.* Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus).* Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting belonging, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the Colleges strategic plan of inclusion.* Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus)\*. Subject to available funds, the college may be able to provide temporary access to resources.** Must be eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor.**Preferred Qualifications:*** Prior teaching experience at the community college level in geography and cartography.* Experience supporting students with varying levels of preparedness for college-level work.* Demonstration of student engagement strategies that help students succeed in the course.* Strong background in the General Education courses of geography.* Evidence of ongoing professional development and leadership roles.* Experience leading academic initiatives.* Member of and participation in Gamma Theta Upsilon.
