Job summary

Children’s Harbor in Norfolk, VA is seeking a Part-Time Maintenance Assistant to support the safe, clean, and efficient operation of our facilities. You will perform routine maintenance and minor repairs across buildings, classrooms, equipment, and grounds.

Under supervision, you will inspect spaces, respond to requests, and help with moving and installing furniture, plus basic groundskeeping. The role requires a high school diploma or GED and the ability to travel between locations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least one year of maintenance-related experience preferred.
• Ability to operate basic hand and power tools safely.
• Familiarity with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, or groundskeeping.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and preventive maintenance of buildings, classrooms, equipment, playgrounds, grounds and vehicles.
• Complete minor repairs including plumbing, electrical fixtures, carpentry, painting and related tasks.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and inspect for hazards or needed repairs.
• Report safety concerns and coordinate with licensed professionals when required.
• Assist with moving, assembling, delivering and installing furniture and equipment.
• Operate tools and equipment safely and maintain records of work performed.
