Portland Community College is seeking qualified part-time ophthalmic instructors for the Eye Technician Program at Cascade Campus. This pool role supports substitute and full-term assignments based on course needs during the academic year.

Applicants should hold COT/COMT credentials or MD with AAO Certification, with 5+ years of clinical ophthalmic practice and relevant degrees. This position is on-site at PCC campuses and requires dedication to student success.

Qualifications

• Current credential as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) or Medical Doctor with AAO Certification in Ophthalmology.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Ophthalmic Medical Technology or related field.
• Minimum five (5) years clinical work experience in an ophthalmic practice.

Responsibilities

• Perform all duties of a certified ophthalmic technician.
• Support students by assessing performance of clinical skills and offering guidance and feedback.
• Follow Eye Technician Program and PCC policies including FERPA and OSHA.
• Maintain laboratory safety and integrity and report injuries or unsafe behaviors.
• Evaluate and grade student work and laboratory activities.
• Restock laboratory supplies and help with inventory.
• Promote professionalism and create a constructive learning environment.
• Identify at risk students and provide extra support and communication with program leadership.
