Job summary

Near North Montessori School in Chicago is seeking an Extended Day Aide to care for and participate in activities with students in the extended day program. You will collaborate with staff to plan developmentally appropriate activities, both indoors and outdoors, and help prepare rooms for daily use.

You will support transitions, monitor safety, and assist with records, training, and general duties. A Bachelor's degree is preferred, and experience with children ages 9 to 14 and Montessori

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, not required
  • Prior experience working with children ages 9 to 14 year old
  • Prior experience in a Montessori environment (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, verbal and written, with children and adults
  • Understanding of a child's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development
  • Demonstrated ability to follow directions and complete tasks in an effective manner
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy setting
  • Ability to organize and participate in age-appropriate enrichment activities
  • Ability to work well with people

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for and lead/participate in activities for students enrolled in the extended day program
  • Work collaboratively with extended day staff to plan fun, developmentally appropriate activities within the extended day environments (both indoor and outdoor)
  • Assist with organization and preparation of the extended day rooms and other spaces used on a daily and weekly basis
  • Assist students with transitions in and out of extended day, this includes other school activities, snack, carpool/pickup and more; ensuring safety at all times and following established school protocols for child pick up and drop off
  • Clean the assigned extended day room and provide input into ideas for new material and room arrangement
  • Update records and paperwork as directed by the supervisor
  • Acquire professional training in the educational field by attending educational conferences, training workshops and other related activities
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested
