Job summary

Experience Champaign Urbana is seeking a part-time veterinary assistant to provide basic patient care under supervision and support day-to-day hospital operations in Urbana, Illinois. You will work closely with veterinarians, technicians, students and staff to ensure high-quality patient care.

The role emphasizes teamwork, monitoring patient status, assisting with treatments and accurate record-keeping. Evening hours are required, with approximately 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic patient care under supervision of a veterinarian or veterinary technician.
• Work with veterinary staff to care for patients including post-surgical and chronic cases.
• Provide food, water and exercise as directed by hospital orders or staff.
• Monitor patient status and report abnormal findings to the team.
• Restrain patients using appropriate restraint techniques as needed.
• Assist with patient transport between clinical areas and with monitoring equipment.
• Document treatments and monitoring on patient records and care plans.
• Assist with setup and maintenance of IV fluids, catheters, and various medical equipment.
• Support enteral feeding and other treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
• Assist with setup for treatments and procedures under orders.
