Job summary

LAC Federal in Rockville, MD, seeks a Reference Librarian to provide high-quality reference and research assistance to students, faculty, staff, and community patrons through online platforms and at the library service desk. You will guide users through catalogs, databases, and print and non-print collections.

The role includes delivering instructional sessions, consultations, and occasional circulation duties, with evening hours during the fall semester.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of reference service experience in an academic, public, or research library.
• Proficiency with electronic information systems, databases, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Familiarity with library technologies used for reference and instruction.
• Strong knowledge of library practices, reference and instructional services.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Deliver reference and research services to library users in-person and virtually.
• Assist patrons with library technologies, databases, and research tools.
• Provide individualized research support through consultations.
• Conduct instructional sessions to promote information literacy and research skills.
• Maintain knowledge of print and digital collections to support user needs.
• Capture and report library usage statistics as directed.
• Collaborate with staff on special projects and create/update instructional resources.
• Support circulation functions as needed.
• Stay current with trends in academic library reference services.
• Participate in professional development to maintain and improve relevant skills.
