The role focuses on administering BEST Plus pre- and post-tests, maintaining attendance, and guiding students through citizenship processes where applicable. Bilingual Mandarin and English is preferred. Pay is $47.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and document pre- and post-testing using the BEST Plus test.
  • Provide required Adult Literacy instruction following the curriculum.
  • If assigned, develop own curriculum with bi-weekly lesson planning.
  • Follow up with students who dropped out.
  • Pre- and post-test students using the BEST Plus.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records with bi-weekly submission.
  • Track and maintain student progress in files and notes.
  • Maintain a supportive and respectful learning environment.
  • Offer students counseling and information/referral services.
  • Guide students through the citizenship application process where applicable.
  • Participate in staff development sessions and meetings.

  • Base Pay $46.00 - $47.00 / Hour

The Instructor will be responsible for delivering literacy instruction aligned with the established curriculum, or developing lesson plans if assigned. This role plays a vital part in fostering a supportive, inclusive, and achievement-oriented learning environment for adult learners.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Administer and document pre- and post-testing using the standardized BEST Plus test.
  • Provide required Adult Literacy instruction, following curriculum set by supervisory staff.
  • If a decision is made that the instructor will develop his/her own curriculum a bi-weekly lesson planning may be required.
  • Follow up with students that dropped out.
  • Pre and Post-test students using the BEST Plus test
  • Maintain accurate attendance records. Attendance records must be submitted on a bi-weekly basis (along with the timesheets).
  • Accurately track and maintain copies of student progress throughout the class. For example, quizzes, tests, work assignments, teacher's progress notes, self-assessment forms, peer assessments forms etc. in the student file.
  • Maintain a supportive and respectful learning environment.
  • Offer students counseling and information/referral services.
  • Guide students through the citizenship application process- where applicable.
  • Participate in required staff development sessions and staff meetings as needed.
  • Additional duties, as assigned.
Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma required.
  • Appropriate training and experience providing educational services to older, youth and/or adult populations.
  • Strong platform skills with the ability to convey ideas and concepts clearly and in alignment with the audience’s abilities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to comprehend and deliver curriculum content.
  • Capacity to assess student performance and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills.
  • The ability to foster a productive and comfortable learning environment, encouraging persistence and building confidence in students.
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity.
  • Bilingual Mandarin and English preferred.

This role is on On-Site and Part-Time

Pay rate: $47.00 per hour
