Camp Horizons in Harrisonburg, VA is seeking a Part Time Equestrian Day Staff to lead trail rides, ring rides, and horse care lessons while caring for our herd of horses. You will develop riding skills and provide memorable experiences for participants of varied ages and abilities.

Responsibilities include teaching English or Western riding, grooming, feeding, turnout, and maintaining safety and emergency procedures.

Qualifications

  • English or Western riding experience; must be willing to learn English if needed.
  • Minimum 1-year equestrian experience such as riding lessons, horse care, and trail rides.
  • Experience working with children preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Current First Aid and CPR or willingness to obtain.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check.

  • Assist with re-conditioning horses prior to program seasons.
  • Assist with and facilitate English riding lessons and horse care for Camp Horizons campers during summer programming.
  • Support with maintenance of horses including feeding, grooming, haying, watering, exercising, daily turnout, and cleaning stalls and paddocks.

The Outdoor Learning Center and Camp Horizons are looking for compassionate, knowledgeable, and caring staff to lead groups through equestrian experiences such as trail rides, ring rides, and horse care lessons in addition to caring for our herd of horses. You’ll develop your skills and love of horses while providing unforgettable experiences for our clients of a variety of ages and abilities.

Equestrian Staff members will be responsible for the care and program facilitation of the seasonal Equestrian program at Camp Horizons. Duties include but are not limited to giving lessons, leading trail rides, grooming, feeding, haying, watering, and exercising our herd of horses in addition to other duties such as daily turnout and mucking stalls and paddocks.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads and assists activities in arena riding, trail rides, and horse care education classes. Inspects equipment throughout use to ensure it meets safety standards.
  • Maintains safety at all times; instructs user groups on camp policies and the details of emergency procedures; carries out established role for enforcing camp safety regulations and the supervision of user group health and safety; maintains safety as a primary focus in all activities.

Seasonal needs, Spring and Fall programming is group based, holiday and weekend availability is required. Summer season would be supporting Summer Camp, most shifts would be during the week.

20-30 hours per week depending on season.
