Job summary

American Leadership Academy in the East Valley seeks a Part-time English/History Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year at Radiance High School. Candidates must have or be able to obtain the AZ IVP fingerprint clearance card.

Responsibilities include delivering English and History lessons, creating detailed lesson plans, and maintaining a positive classroom environment. A Bachelor’s degree is required, with preferred History/English emphasis and teaching certification.

Job description

Charter One works with schools across the country to provide all-inclusive education management services. At Charter One we pride ourselves on our thorough knowledge of charter school operations, academics, finance, human resources, information technology, marketing, and more. We handle the day-to-day work so that client school boards can focus on governance and policy issues to be sure that the vision and mission of the school are being carried out properly.

American Leadership Academy is now accepting applications for a Part-time English/History Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year for our Radiance High School campus located in the East Valley. Candidates must possess, or be willing to obtain, a valid AZ IVP fingerprint clearance card.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Implement a comprehensive history curriculum that includes primary source documents, historical events, themes, and concepts.
  • Implement a comprehensive English curriculum that includes literature, writing, grammar, and language skills.
  • Create detailed lesson plans that align with state standards and approved curriculum guidelines.
  • Deliver history lessons using a variety of teaching methods, such as lectures, discussions, group work, and hands‑on activities.
  • Incorporate approved texts and media, including novels, poetry, drama, and digital resources from curriculum guidelines.
  • Teach English classes effectively, using a range of instructional methods such as lectures, discussions, group work, and individual projects.
  • Use primary and secondary sources, historical documents, and artifacts to enrich the learning experience.
  • Encourage critical thinking and analysis by prompting students to evaluate historical events and perspectives.
  • Encourage students to analyze texts, develop arguments, and express their ideas clearly.
  • Create and administer assessments, including tests, quizzes, essays, and projects, to measure student understanding and progress.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments and assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress.
  • Establish and maintain a positive and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies to address behavioral issues and promote a productive learning atmosphere.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including those with varying levels of prior knowledge and special educational needs.
  • Provide additional support and resources to students who may need extra help understanding historical concepts.
  • Provide additional support and resources to students who need extra help with reading, writing, or language skills.
  • Use engaging teaching techniques to make history relevant and interesting to students.
  • Incorporate current events and contemporary issues to connect historical content with students’ lives.
  • Promote a love of literature and language by selecting engaging and relevant texts and materials.
  • Encourage student participation through discussions, debates, and collaborative projects.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with historical scholarship, educational strategies, and teaching technologies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and contribute to the development of the History curriculum and English curriculum.
  • Prepare and submit necessary reports, grades, and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Manage classroom resources and ensure their proper use and maintenance.
  • Participate in school meetings, committees, and extracurricular activities as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in History, English, or related field
  • Arizona Teaching Certificate or 24 credit hours in area or Content knowledge exams (AEPA, NES, Praxis)
