Job summary

City of Indianola is seeking Part-Time EMTs to respond to Fire and EMS emergencies, providing pre-hospital care under the Fire Department's guidance.

The position requires EMS certification, a valid Iowa Class-B CDL, and a strong driving record; EVOC training will be provided as part of onboarding.

Qualifications

• Must have a good driving record and meet insurance requirements.
• Must maintain current Iowa EMS certification and be in good standing with Bets.
• Must be in good physical condition and able to work long periods in extreme conditions.

Responsibilities

• Responds to Fire/EMS emergencies to save lives and property.
• Performs fire suppression and EMS duties as directed.
• Provides Basic/Advanced pre-hospital care per protocols.
• Completes EVOC training as required.

The City of Indianola (pop. 16,069) is a growing community with a historic downtown, located approximately 15 minutes south of Des Moines. It is a safe community with Midwestern values, friendly people, and excellent schools. Indianola, which is home to Simpson College, the world-renowned Des Moines Metro Opera, the National Balloon Museum, and the U.S. Ballooning Hall of Fame, is known for its excellent access to outdoor activities, a nice trail system, five major parks, and two golf courses. The community welcomes thousands of visitors annually who come to Indianola to enjoy major events such as the National Balloon Classic, the Warren County Fair, and other events.

This position is responsible for a number of tasks, including, but not limited to:

• Responds to the scene of Fire and EMS-related emergencies to save lives, and property, and preserve the environment.
• Performs fire suppression and EMS duties using related equipment as required, under the direction of the Fire Department's structure (chain of command), and Fire Department Standard Operating Guidelines.
• Performs appropriate, Basic and Advanced levels of pre-hospital care for sick and injured patients, per protocols at the direction of the Indianola Fire Department Medical Director.
• Will successfully complete the American Integrated Training Systems EVOC.

The successful candidate will have:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must possess a valid Iowa Class-B, CDL license.
• Must have a good driving record and meet any requirements the City's insurance carrier may require.
• Must maintain current Iowa EMS certification and be in good standing with the Iowa Bureau of EMS (BETS) to provide patient care in Iowa.
• Must be in good physical condition and capable of working for long periods in extreme environmental conditions.

Starting salary is $26.40. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a post-offer drug screening, physical capacity profile, physical, and background check. The position is open until filled.
